Recently, CMS announced a new Medicare Care Choices Model, a description of which may be found here. On Wednesday, April 16, CMS will host a related Open Door forum. Dial in and other details for the 2PM call may be found here. In the demonstration, CMS will allow participants to “receive palliative care services from certain hospice providers while concurrently receiving services provided by their curative care providers,” targeting Medicare beneficiaries eligible for Medicare hospice, as well as duals eligible for Medicaid hospice benefits. It expects to enroll 30,000 beneficiaries over three years. According to U.S. Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) “Allowing Medicare coverage to continue while under hospice care means that patients no longer have to make a false choice between hospice and curative care.”
